Love Readiness Secret #6 – How Healthy are YOU in Mind, Body and Spirit

Often, when a single lesbian is seeking a soul mate or a lesbian couple comes to me for coaching to transform their relationship into something more satisfying, I find they’re neglecting an important area of love readiness.  Remember – the more ready you are for love, the more you can take any situation and turn it into a more loving one.

One of the 10 most important love readiness areas is health.  And health includes mind, body and spirit.  Today I want to focus on the body.  As many of us know, we often ignore our bodies much too often as we run around being busy as we often are.  We spend more time nurturing things like our cars and others, before we take care of ourselves.  Yes, it’s true we must juggle our commitments.  However, too often we let the ‘body’ ball drop!

For example, how often, in the past week have you, instead of preparing yourself a nourishing meal, rushed and grabbed a fattier, less healthy alternative.  Do you even know the calorie and fat contents of those fast foods you eat? Keep reading for a great way to get the scoop on the fast foods you love!.  How many sugar cravings have you had this week?  And, how many days this week did you get at least seven hours of sleep?

All of these ‘poor’ health choices and symptoms of not eating properly are not necessarily deadly on their own, but, over time they add up!

Many of us, in fact, are addicted – literally, and without really knowing it – to the staples of today’s American diet – high fructose corn syrup, internet/computer activities, double servings of high fat cheese, salads loaded with fatty dressing and mounds of ‘natural’ pasta.  Yes, I didn’t make a mistake putting ‘internet activities’ in there.  The results of this style of eating and ‘seating’ has manifested itself.

Lesbian women, according to my friends over at The Mautner Project, may even have a higher rate of heart disease as compared to our straight sisters.  The reasons for this are complex but it would help you to become aware of the reasons so you can do something about them!

Some of us (myself included) often wait till late in the day to exercise when we are tired, and, instead of making ourselves get up and go, even if go means taking the dog for a nice, long walk, we end up going back to the computer chair to do more work or we flop in front of the TV for the night.

Well, unless we start making some small, yet consistent, changes in our daily routine, we are going to find ourselves with more health problems, higher medical bills and a negative impact on ourselves, our careers, our relationships, our children, etc….I’m sure you get the picture!

For example, you can make healthier choices such as lower fat cheese, limited simple carbohydrates, getting enough sleep and jogging in place while watching the latest episode of the Biggest Loser!  If you’re a couple you can decide to start taking a nice, morning walk together and you can resolve to make a healthier meal plan for the coming week and have lots of fun preparing some sensuous meals and feeding each other!

Here are two resources to help you get started taking better care of your body

So, today, I want to share with you two excellent resources I’ve come across that are helping me change my behavior and mindset:  The Eat This, Not That material over at Men’s Health and a neat report I saw yesterday on the Today Show on 9 Ways to Lose Weight without Dieting.

For example, today’s Men’s Health newsletter sent to me was called ‘all burgers aren’t created equal’ and offered me 10 comparisons across a number of meals that shows clear winners in terms of what you should eat if you are out and don’t have time to prepare your own meal.

Be sure to comment right here on the blog about this topic and the resources!  I’d love to know what you think about these resources!

Have an amazing day!

    Great resources Barb! ……

As a respiratory therapist for 28 yrs I can attest to the fact that those who don’t consistently make those small, yet consistent, positive changes in nutrition and exercise in their daily routine to support their wellness, do indeed find themselves with health problems, higher medical bills and a negative impact on themselves, their careers, relationships etc.

I see everyday the results of the standard american diet and lifestyle….. hospitals are full of the results. I see so much misery that isn’t necessary.

Having fought systemic lupus erythematosus for a number of years I can tell you the downside of illness is not limited to pain or feeling bad …. the worst side of illness is the loss of choice. Illness limits your choices in life.

Nutrition gave me my life back from lupus and led me to attain a Masters in Holistic Nutrition to enable me to help others. New research is showing good nutrition and healthy lifestyle can prevent bad genes from activating. Do you realize how important that research is? It should be a headline on every newspaper in the country!

It means we all have so much control over the quality of our lives…. if we just take action.

I would encourage everyone to get off the couch….. if you must watch tv put your treadmill in front of it. Do both! Incorporate more veggies into your diet. Banish fast food from your life! Trust me it’s killing you. Even small positive changes will give you big positives in your health. You don’t have to be a statistic.
