Online dater – a picture is worth a thousand words…make yours shine!

Today, more than ever, you have a variety of opportunities for meeting other single lesbians.  While I recommend a ‘diversified’ approach to finding potential dates and soul mates, you most likely will choose online dating as one of your ‘scouting’ strategies.

You also have access to an increasing number of online dating sites.  None of them are perfect, mind you, but my recommendation is that you locate a handful of sites you like and focus your search time to those sites.

No matter which dating site(s) you decide to visit to seek dates or potential life partners, the issue of uploading a great photo to your listing or profile is a big one.  I still am amazed at how many lesbians either don’t upload a photo of themselves to their profiles or, choose unflattering photo(s) to upload to their profiles.

Here’s my word to the wise:  if you don’t right now have a decent photo of yourself, leave your profile picture blank until you do have a great photo(s) of yourself.  Secondly, if you are serious about getting responses to your personal ad now, you’ve got to get some great shots of yourself done and uploaded to your sites ASAP!

Whether you want to admit it or not we are all very visual creatures.  Many women won’t even read a personal ad from another woman where there is no photo posted.  Dating site operators always advise their members to post at least one photo of oneself because doing so automatically gets you more notice and notice is necessary to receive responses.

Today, given the availability of many great digital cameras at relatively low prices, it’s easy to take some up-to-date, flattering pictures of yourself.  Or, have a friend take them for you.

When you decide to do the ‘photo shoot’ be sure you’ve just bathed or showered and make yourself up as you normally do (no more or less).   You don’t have to dress up in a suit, but you’ll want to wear a top that is at least casually dressy.  Take lots of photos, in various locations (inside, outside) and from various angles and poses.  As far as a ratio, figure it will take at least 5-10 photos to end up with one you really like.  You might also ask friends to weigh in on their favorites.

What if you’re not interested in taking your own photos? Don’t give up.  There are alternatives to do-it-your-self-ing.  One service you might want to try is Look Better OnlineLook Better Online boasts the ability to search by zip code and locate established photographers who are experienced in taking great photos for online use at relatively inexpensive prices.

I just started suggesting Look Better Online to my clients and readers so I am very curious what your experience with them is.  Please, if you hire them to take your photos, let me know if you’d recommend them to your best friend or use them again!

Happy online dating!
