GOGO Productions – A new social group for lesbians in Central Florida!

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

As I’ve been saying quite often lately, there seems to be an accelerating number of lesbian groups, organizations and events happening in communities across America.  This is, of course, great news for lesbians seeking a social life, especially single lesbians.   I coach all my gals in my social club for lesbians, Lez Rendezvous, to get out there and attend at least one social event a week.  Two would be even better!

Just this past week, for example, I was talking with a single lesbian who had recently attended a lesbian camping weekend.  Here in Central Florida, the scene is no different.

For example, last month, while I was in Daytona Beach running my booth at Daytona’s Gay Pride Festival, the night before Pride I had an opportunity to finally meet Dee and the ‘Just Us’ gang, an established group of lesbians from the north east coast areas of Florida who meet for a variety of social gatherings.

And, in today’s post I want to highlight for you a brand new social group for lesbians that has come onto the scene in the Central Florida/Orlando, Florida area.  The group is called

GoGo Productions (Girlz of Greater Orlando)

and it was founded by an Orlando woman whose vision it is to:

“…create a friendly, relaxed atmosphere for womyn to mingle in and make new connections. It is my profound belief as owner moderator of this group that we always keep a positive environment and that we should support one another lift each other up, rather than tear each other down. There is no reason every day can not be Gay Days here in the Greater Orlando Area! All we need is You!!”

GoGo Productions has an active social calendar, with several events per month planned.  For example, tomorrow morning is their singles brunch and June includes events such as dinner and a movie, moonlight bowling and a coffee klatch, to name just a few.

If you’re a central Florida lesbian, you need to check out GoGo Productions.  No more excuses for not having something to do this month.  You can learn more about GoGo by clicking here.

What great events, groups or organizations in your town aren’t getting the attention they should?  What do you want other lesbians in your area to know about? Lesbian women all across America read Coach Sappho’s blog and want to know what to do with their social and recreational time, so, email me and let me know the scoop so I can spread the word.

Who knows…maybe that’s how we’ll get some new faces out to your next area event.  And, if you are single, perhaps that is how you’ll meet your soul mate!?!   ;-)

Join Coach Sappho and Get Steady this May 17th in NYC and meet your soul mate!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

My buddy Michael Zuyus, founder of GetSteady, one of the only gay or lesbian dating sites that mandates verified photo authenticity of all active members, is getting a group to walk together in New York City’s 2009 Aidswalk in Central Park on May 17, 2009.

Participating in NYC’s AIDSWALK with Coach Sappho offers you ‘oodles’ of goodies like:

  • an opportunity meet other kind and compassionate single lesbians (if you are single)
  • connecting with loving, committed lesbian couples and families who are walking
  • fighting back against AIDS while having fun
  • getting some great exercise!

For example, if you are a single lesbian living in or around New York City, consider that if helping out charities like AIDS is a core value to you, participating in such an event will put you in the company of other lesbians who care like you do!  Not only will you meet other single lesbians from the Coach Sappho/GetSteady group, you’ll be seen by many of the other thousands of caring individuals, couples and families also walking with you.  What a great way to make some new friends, potential paramours, etc.

GetSteady just released a press release on the walk with more details.  Click here to read the press release.

If you are serious about attending, do me a BIG favor and do TWO things:

1)  Go to the AIDSWALK website, click on the drop down menu and select GetSteady and complete your registration.

2)  Contact me to let me know, so we can plan to meet up during the walk!

If enough women are interested in meeting up with me and doing the walk, we’ll plan a Coach Sappho post-event social somewhere nearby that day AFTER the event to connect, mingle etc.

Remembering 9/11 and G.I.R.L. AID fundraiser for AIDS organization in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Today’s post is short and to the point.  In today’s post I’ll mention one very important anniversary and an upcoming fundraiser.

——————–

Today is the 6th anniversary of Osama Bin Laden’s attacks on the United States and there are memorial celebrations going on at the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and at the field in Pennsylvania where heroes like gay man Mark Bingham sent a third plane (Flight 93) headed for our nation’s capital crashing into the earth effectively preventing a third attack.  Please take time today to take a moment to remember.

Also remember that the 3,000 killed aren’t the only victims.  When I watch the ceremonies I note that many people are crying as if it happened yesterday.  Family and friends of those killed are forever impacted.

Lastly, don’t forget the many rescuers and those who cleaned up the mess.  Many are today now disabled from the damage to their lungs.

So if we really added up the ‘victims of 9/11′ (those pretty directly impacted), there are actually 10′s of thousands of victims.

Our elected officials need to do more to take care of these folks.  I don’t know about you but I’d like to see my tax dollars (and theirs) go to them first before going anywhere else.

——————–

TODAY’S ISSUE:

I.  Great news from California!  California state senate passes gay marriage bill!!!

II.  Barb Elgin to hold open telephone conference line on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at 8:30pm for support re: Hurricane Katrina.

III.  Join Coach Sappho’s Fall 2005 Life Makeover Tele-group (early bird registration through 9/10/05).

I.  Great news from California!  California state senate passes gay marriage bill!!!

Great news from the political front lines today.  California continues to inch forward on the gay marriage issue!  The California senate has passed a bill called The Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act.  Now it goes to the state assembly and if passes California would be the first legislature in the country to pass equality rights legislation for same sex couples.  If you live in California, this is your chance to call your legislators, especially in the assembly and tell them you support this human rights issue.

Speaking of gay marriage, did you know that I’ve been recording an internet radio show called

Gay Marriage…Who Cares?

I hope you’ll go and check it out – hint:  while we are in production the program will be available at no cost online.  Eventually, the series will be compiled into a CD for sale.

II.  Barb Elgin to hold open telephone conference line on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at 8:30pm for support re: Hurricane Katrina.

I’ve been taken by the heartbreak on the Gulf Coast, as I’m sure you have too.  Got lots bottled up about it and no where to go to release it?  I’ve got an outlet for you:

On Tuesday evening, September 6, 2005, at 8:30pm EST, I’ve reserved a teleconference line for anyone who’d like to join me to de-stress, strategize ways you can get involved and/or raise consciousness together around this tragedy.  These, I think, are three of the best things you can do to handle your emotions around this issue.

I’m offering this discussion to the community gratis.  Your only cost is your usual long distance telephone charges.  To attend, just call in to the following line on Tuesday at 8:30pmEST:  413.200.7075, private access code: 51861 and the ‘#’ sign.

By the way, people are doing all sorts of creative things to help out.  Today, members of our community wrote to me with the following ideas (sorry for the font issues, but I wanted to get these out as fast as possible):

  • Encourage a group you are involved in or an area business to pitch in to collect items that can be packed up and mailed to rescue organizations. I hear that the following items are needed:
Canned and/or non-perishable food
Baby food/formula/bottles/baby wipes
Blankets
Pillows
Sheets
Bottled water
Batteries
Flashlights
Diapers
Toiletries-toothpaste, deodorant, etc.
First aid kits/supplies
Over the counter medicines (new, unsealed)
Soap
Shampoo
Feminine products
Small games/toys/colors/coloring books for children
Pre-paid phone cards
Pens, pencils, paper
Clothing
Shoes
Waterless hand cleaner
Ziploc bags
Snacks

Cheese/peanut butter crackers

Candy
Cookies

Adult Depends

Pet food

Towels

  • Animal rescue - of course, in the chaos of what is going on, animals could and are getting lost in the shuffle.  But there are organizations you can donate to if you’d like resources to go to the care of the animals affected by the storm.  My friends over at Rainbow Ranch suggest the following:
Life Coaching for Lesbian WomenBoth the ASPCA out of New York and the AKC have donation mechanisms set up:  The AKC is accepting donations for the canine victims of Katrina.  See:  http://www.akc.org/news/index.cfm?article_id=2599
Life Coaching for Lesbian Womenhttp://www.noahswish.org/ – comes highly regarded – they are ‘hands on’ and already in the area of the disaster.
Life Coaching for Lesbian WomenThe Humane Society of the United States is accepting donations: https://secure.hsus.org/01/disaster_relief_fund_2005/step1/r-pqLFC61kp5X

Life Coaching for Lesbian WomenHave a Heart for Companion Animals sent the email below just now that Best Friends www.bestfriends.org in Utah (the No More Homeless Pets people and sanctuary) is also coordinating fundraising to help the disaster pets.

III.  Join Coach Sappho’s Fall 2005 Life Makeover Tele-group (early bird registration through 9/10/05)

I’ve made a decision, after surveying community members, to run a ‘Life Makeover’ Tele-group this fall.  This is a fantastic experience that will put you front and center looking at your life and making a real committment to yourself and creating a life that is more what you want it to be.

Tele-group coaching is also less expensive than individual coaching and, you get the added benefit of the wisdom and encouragement of other group members.  And, it can be alot of fun ‘returning the favor’ too!

Life Coaching for Lesbian WomenPLEASE NOTE:  Now is the time to reserve your spot and save over 30% off!!!  We’re running an early bird rate through September 10th.  Also – I am keeping the group small to ensure each member has all of the support he/she wants and/or needs.

Okay, my friend, that’s it for today!  Take care and be grateful for the abundance in your life!
