Attracting your soul mate in tough economic times – staying the course (Part I)

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Just like you, I’ve been quite concerned about the current economic realities.  This post is directed at those wonderful single lesbians who are seeking a life partner or soul mate in these tough economic times.

There has been a curious spike in profits for a couple of industries, I hear.  One is the liquor industry.  Ha!  I won’t cover the reasons for that one, as well as the potential pitfalls, in this post.  However, the other industry that is faring well in these challenging economic times is the online dating industry!

I’ve been hearing about the rapid increase in sign ups at online dating sites.  Just what is this spike in interest in online dating about, particularly in a time when many people are tightening their budgets?

———————-

So, I just hopped over to Oprah’s website to pick up my free copy of Jean Chatsky’s ebook ‘The Difference’.  It’s not too late – she’s giving it away until midnight tomorrow night.  Thanks to Pam and twitter for reminding me!  I saw a bit of Oprah the other day and heard about the book but had totally forgotten.

Chatzky is everywhere these days on big time TV, so, I made sure to at least skim through the book immediately to see what she has to say.  Her book is very timely, given that the topic is financial success. Chatzky’s book is premised on a large study that looked at the lifestyle habits and success of Americans.  The study discovered that Americans can be divided into four groups:

  • The wealthy
  • The comfortable
  • Those living ‘paycheck to paycheck’
  • Those falling further into debt

I’m going to hold a series of LIVE chats for Lez Rendezvous members over the next few weeks where we’ll get together as a group and talk about the book.  We’ll be dividing the book up and assigning attendees chapters to read and then we’ll come back and share with other members what their chapter was about.

This should be a lot of fun!  I too find the book timely and offering some interesting ideas for getting into greater integrity with my financial life!  How about you?  If you are single and already a ‘Lez Rez’ member, just be sure to check the group’s online ‘calendar of events’ for all the details for attending.

IF YOU ARE A SINGLE LESBIAN AND YOU AREN’T YET A LEZ RENDEZVOUS MEMBERsign up by midnight this Sunday night (March 15, 2009) and you will get your first month of membership FREE!

TO SIGN UP - Just click here and, when you get to the ‘check out’ enter the code ’48HROFFER’.

I’ll see you there!

Lesbians and Money – In the bedroom and in the boardroom we can shine!

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

Happy, happy Thursday to you! As I head into a busy day, I wanted to remind you about some really important legal news I hope you are already aware of (or if you aren’t, definitely read on) AND some really cool information I came across this week on women in the workplace I’d like to share with you.

Here’s the important legal news: Today is a very exciting and important day for all Californians, as well as all Americans.  Today is the day that the Supreme Court of California will hear legal arguments for and against whether or not the anti-gay, anti-marriage equality Proposition 8 as voted on last November should stand or not.

As you may or may not know, Ken Starr, the infamous prosecutor from the Bush years, is arguing FOR Prop 8.  And, even before today’s hearing, he’s already begun the legal processes of undoing the 18,000 or so same sex marriages that occurred prior to the passage of Prop 8 in a cold and uncaring act that would put many families at risk.

Whether you are for marriage equality or not, the court’s ruling will be huge.  Don’t kid yourself – this is a legal battle we must eventually win, because, our financial futures ARE deeply affected by our ability to choose to marry or not.  That’s a topic for another day but, if you ever want to discuss it, I’m game!

Even if we lose the battle today regarding Prop 8, we will as a community still move forward and press to have our equal rights recognized, I’m sure.  But, I think gay Californians have an awfully good chance of winning.

What do you think? Let’s talk it up right here on the blog…post your comments.

Secondly, I wanted to share with you some juicy information that I came across this week regarding women, the workplace and economy:

Last Sunday, I caught parts of some of the ‘talking head’ shows and, I think I was watching Meet the Press when I saw Dee Dee Myers, former president Bill Clinton’s press secretary, talking about her new book, which I found pretty cool.  I think you’ll agree the title is ‘ball-sy’…

Why Women Should Rule the world by Dee Dee Myers

Also out recently is an article in the Financial Times called ‘Women Shine in the Downturn‘.  The article shares results of a study showing that, when women are ‘in charge’ companies do better financially!  Is that not cool or what?  Dee Dee may be onto something (if there was ever any doubt!)

Here’s a quote from the article…

Now is the time to become the more gentle, yet strong soul you are…

In times of uncertainty we can bring back the integrity of our lives.
-  I saw this quote today on Tony Robbin’s twitter page.

As another day passes and we hear more ‘doom and gloom’ from our TV’s, the internet and such, I believe this is one of those times that we will look back upon as a time where we became more loving, yet strong souls.  Indeed, in our parent’s times, perhaps they referred to times like now as

Make it or Break it Time

We’ve certainly now begun to see (and many of us have begun to experience) the ‘barren soil’ and dying vegetation that has come from ‘irrational exuberance’ and, perhaps, a type of greed and lack of accountability that has characterized our political and economic systems in recent years.

While all of us no doubt have been touched to some degree by these elements, I want to remind you that these are times where it is possible for us to become stronger, especially emotionally and mentally.

Mentally and emotionally, you ask?  “How can I feel more confident when I’ve lost my job and I don’t where my next mortgage payment is going to come from?”

Times like these are the ones that make us stronger, if we choose to reach down inside and find our brilliance.  That’s right…

While I am more liberal than conservative (I really hate both terms), I am also more conservative than liberal (figure that one out)!  What this means is that I tend to agree with those who say we’ve all, as a society, gotten away from cultivating the ‘higher’ aspects of our character.
